About
Most families have a tight budget in theses times and being a single mom for many years I have had to learn to make ends meet on a ground beef budget making mistakes along the way and plenty of lessons learned.
So where did the name for this blog come from? Here’s the answer:
My mom is my inspiration for cooking and managing a home. Have you ever heard “You can’t get blood from a turnip”? Well she can! I am nowhere as good as her at stashing away money but I am pretty savvy when it comes to shopping. It doesn’t take a lot of money or fancy ingredients to put a flavorful, nutritious meal with love on the family table. Growing up our budget was tight and I joke with my mom and tell her we had hamburger meat 1000 ways (but we really didn’t) she was able somehow manage a home with 9 acres of land, work full time and put wonderful meals on the table every night.
With the help of my mom I started cooking when I was around 12~Southern Style Comfort Foods that anyone can cook with ingredients that are easy to find and usually already in the pantry. I love to cook and bake and have to do so on a budget and I love sharing my stories and recipes.
Here I will share recipes with a Southern flare, stories that go along with some, budget saving tips, and items I love, product reviews, giveaways and much more.
Nothing fancy ’round here….just great recipes that real Southern moms cook .
I would love it if you could sign up for my newsletter and get new posts, recipes and stories delivered directly into your inbox.
Thanks for stopping by and visiting my blog. I hope you visit again real soon.

Just found your blog today, and I pinned lots of great stuff. It was the hamburger soup recipe that brought me here, and I am so glad to have found so many yummy recipes: cream cheese spaghetti bake and green beans with red potatoes!
Thanks so much for sharing!
You are so welcome and thanks for visiting! You taking the time to leave a comment means so much to me.
