When I get bored I want to bake! I start inventorying in my mind what baking goods I have in my kitchen…..then I realize I just may have enough to bake this or that!
A few weeks ago on our annual trip to the longest yard sale I snagged some cookbooks for 50¢ each!!! One of which has became my new favorite; Southern Cakes: Sweet and Irresistible Recipes for Everyday Celebrations by Nancy McDermott.
Why in the world this lady threw this book into the yard sale I have no earthly idea. The only thing I can figure out is that some people are bakers and some are not…she must fall into the not a baker category or she would have been hanging onto this book for deal life! This cookbook is filled with one delicious recipe after another, Southern Classics that most are familiar with but so much more:
- Colonial Queen Cakes
- Burn Sugar Cake
- Fresh Apple Cake
- Celestial Chocolate Cake
- Tipsey Cake
- Chocolate Wet Cake
- Sapelo Island Hard Time Cake
- Daufuskie Island Carrot Cake
- and a ton of other decadent recipes!
- Lemon Curd
- Caramel Glaze
- Boiled Icing
- Browned Butter Frosting
- Cream Cheese Frosting
- and more!
