There are all sort of ways to analyze the performance of a a blog….followers, subscribers and traffic.
Followers: Is the sum of many things, Twitter Followers + Facebook Fans + RSS Feed Subscribers + Email Newsletter Subscribers + Pinterest Followers + Google + Followers, and more.
Subscribers: Is the total number of RSS Feed Subscribers and Email Newsletter Subscribers
Traffic: Is the number of visits and pageviews the blogger has to their blog.
Traffic is very important in many ways:
Traffic is great for the blogger. When a blogger checks their stats and sees an increase in traffic they know that what they are writing is important enough for someone else to read. It’s a great pat on the back for all your hard work and keeps you encouraged to continue blogging right along.
Making money blogging is not a huge priority for me I am probably making maybe less than 2 cents an hour (of course I would love to make more) but advertising like you see in the side bar is usually paid to the blogger based on traffic to their site. The more traffic the blogger gets the more the ad gets seen and therefore the payout comes sooner.
Traffic also increases the opportunity for the reader as well. The more traffic a site sees the more apt a company is to offer items for giveaways and contests. Giving the readers better chances at winning prizes, really nice prizes.
How does the blog reader drive traffic ?
If you are a subscriber, fan or follower and you begin reading something on Facebook, Twitter or in an email newsletter click on over to the blog to read more.
Pin It: Pinterest is wonderful and a great driving force for traffic to blogs. I think most bloggers feel the same way. Many have the little Pin It icons on post to make it easy for you. ~Feel free to Pin anything on my site you want to.
I love Pinterest and if you need more information on how to Pin something new you find in a blog go here to my Pinterest Tips and Tricks post it’s easy to do and bookmarks the sites you find interesting.
Invite: If you have friends or family that you think would be interested in a particular blog. Send an email and let them know about the blog. Tell them to give the blog a visit. Cut and paste the URL and include it in the email so that they can just click their way there.
Share: On facebook if you are a fan and you find a recipe, blog post, giveaway etc. Hit the share button and share it with your Facebook friends.
Retweet: If you see an interesting tweet from a blogger retweet it for your followers to see. I love Twitter.
