Last week we made a trip to the local You Pick Blueberry Farm.
We grabbed our buckets and off we went. (She had a little more energy than I did)
It took us a while but we finally filled our buckets. How many blueberries are in a gallon….a bunch!
What did I do with a gallon of blueberries? Froze them for later, of course. It’s so nice to have blueberries in the freezer all year.
Here’s how you do it:
Ingredients:
- Blueberries
- Ziploc bags
- a tray with a lip that will fit in your freezer
Instructions:
- It is recommended that you do not rinse or wash your blueberries before freezing, rinsing beforehand can make the skin tougher when thawed. Other types of blueberries it is fine to rinse.
- Look your berries removing any stems, dirt or debris. Place them on a tray in a single layer that will fit in your freezer. Allow the berries to freeze.
- Fill your freezer bags, remove any excess air to prevent freezer burn. Label your bags and date them.
- I froze my blueberries in 1 cup measurements to make it easier when cooking but since they are frozen individually you can easily remove the desired amount when cooking. Just be sure and remove all the air you can and reseal well.
- Just remember to rinse before cooking with them.
